Class of the week

With the transition from Reception to Year 1, Class 1ALP, of Ilfracombe Infant and Nursery School, made an outstanding achievement when after only 4 weeks in their new class all children got all of their spellings right. Class Teacher, Amy Parsons said, “The children have settled really well into Year 1 and they all love learning their spellings and look forward to our weekly spelling test on a Monday morning. I am so proud of the entire class who love nothing more than receiving a spelling certificate on a Monday afternoon knowing that they have got their spellings right. It was a busy afternoon when I called the entire class up! We have be looking at having ‘Great Stickability’ in our class which means that we never give up and we try, try and try again. This class achievement is an excellent example of 1ALPs ‘Great Stickability’”.

School Sports Week

The children of Ilfracombe Infants and Nursery School enjoyed their Sports Week arranged by Miss Katie Dent (P.E. co-ordinator) when they had a visit from Julian Golley who is the British triple jumper. He won a gold medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada with a jump of 17.03m. Everyone took part in the sporting activities. The children were shown how to do simple fitness exercises before Julian spoke to the school and showed them how he does the triple jump. It was very exciting for the children and some of them were chosen to
participate in Julians' display. Having Sports Week will hopefully inspire children to enjoy exercise on a regular basis.

Teddy bears picnic

Children of Ilfracombe Infants enjoyed the Teddy Bears Picnic at the Landmark as part of the Victorian Week celebrations. We all ate together at an enormous picnic. During the picnic the children were entertained by Chucklefoot who played many different instruments. We all joined in singing songs and some children were invited to go up and play some instruments. Everyone had great fun.

Victorian Week

Class 1AP were given an authentic Victorian lesson. They used slates, sat in rows and were even sent to the corner to wear the dunces cap! They visited a local residential home and sang Victorian songs for the residents.

They learnt what playtimes were like in Victorian times. Some games were the same but some very very different.

School Council

About us

The School Council is made up of representatives from each class.  The representatives are chosen by the class voting system. We meet every Friday at 2.30pm unless there is a reason to cancel the meeting, e.g., whole school activity or special events.

School Council Aims

We aim to ensure that our pupil’s views and suggestions are taken into account and to give our pupils a feeling of ownership of the school.  Topics for discussions are closely linked with a whole school theme, for example, Behaviour, Discipline and Learning.

Reporting to the Head teacher

A record of each meeting or ½ termly summary is given to the Head teacher and class teachers.  Suggestions – Ideas for playground activities, Ecology activities, School Behaviour etc., are acted on and the Head teacher takes seriously, and values, the pupils input and items are frequently raised and discussed at whole school assembly.

Recent OFSTED Report

In our latest OFSTED Report our School Council was judged to be enthusiastic and pro-active in school matters seeing themselves as a “mini governing body”.
