Our Pictures of London

We have begun to learn about London in 1JB and, as part of this, we wanted to make our own London cityscapes. We first drew some and then looked at how other artists made theirs. We especially like looking at different collages of London and decided this is something we would like to do ourselves.

We thought this would be an easy thing to do, but soon realised just how many different skills we would have to use. We had to select, measure, cut carefully and place different objects so they looked like the busy and giant city that London is.

This term, we are looking at different ways of painting and a part of this is studying how you can use contrasting colours to make objects stand out against each other. We used this painting style as an inspiration for our own work and tried to use really contrasting colours to make all the things in our London pictures stand out and to make our collages bright and busy just like London is.

"Choosing, cutting and placing our different city parts into our pictures was really hard. You had to think a lot about if it looked just right"

"When we were painting our pictures we had to look at the colours we wanted to use and make sure they stood out all the time. This was making it contrast".
