World Book Day

Today we World Book Day and everyone came to school dressed as their favourite character from a book to celebrate. It was really colourful to see everyone dressed up and enjoying thinking about books. However, that wasn’t the only special thing that we did to celebrate. As part of the day’s events, the teachers from Year 1 put on a special performance of Little Red Riding Hood and acted rather silly! Everyone enjoyed seeing their teachers acting out the different characters, and the children enjoyed joining along with them and cheering Little Red Riding Hood and booing the Big Bad Wolf.

The children also took part in deciding what would happen in the story by thinking up different ideas of what might happen in the story and adding these to the ‘dice of destiny’. The dice was then thrown and, whatever idea it landed on, the characters had to carry on the story in this way. Everyone was happy with this except the Wolf, who always ended up getting into trouble and not getting any dinner!

After this we went back to our class and talked about, read and wrote about our favourite books. We really enjoyed hearing about each other’s favourite stories and sharing why we liked them so much. Later we also had a special assembly with the whole school all about books. This was really fun because we got to see what all the other children and teachers had dressed as for World Book Day and listen to exciting stories from Year 2 children and Kathy from Ilfracombe Library.

We had a fun and fantastic World Book Day and cannot wait to see what happens next year!
