Nursery Parent Information

At the beginning of each session staff welcome children and adults into the setting.

The doors are open to the outdoor area and children can choose to play inside or outside. Children can practice skills from across the curriculum in a small group for example language development, cutting, early phonics, counting and pencil activities may be included in this time. There is an emphasis on speaking, understanding and listening skills and children use this time to discuss their ideas and to find out about the activities that day.

Children can access the activities in which they wish to participate, to work at their own pace and develop their originality. They also work with an adult on more directed activities.

Children can have a drink of milk or water and a piece of fruit each session. Both are provided without charge.  Children always have access to their own water bottle provided by the nursery.

Children have their lunch at 12.00 noon. They may bring a packed lunch from home but please be aware we are a nut free school, children are not permitted to bring any nut products due to life threatening allergies. Children can have a hot school dinner or school packed lunch at a cost of £2.00; this includes a wide range of healthy meals which are cooked in the school kitchen. The children eat their lunch in the nursery as part of their daily routine. Some families may be eligible for a free school meal if they attend all day.

As Foundation Stage involves some messy activities, it is advisable for children not to wear best clothes. It is also a great help (when going to the toilet) if children are wearing clothes they can manage themselves. There is no uniform but school sweatshirts may be purchased from Excel Embroidery if so wished.

The children have free access to all indoor and outdoor areas of the setting. Children need a coat everyday and/or a sunhat and sun cream in the summer months.

Coats, jumpers and so on should be marked with the child’s name. During wet weather, we provide full waterproofs and wellingtons for outdoor play.

We ask that all children bring a full change of clothes everyday – or leave a change of clothes in a named bag on their peg.

Children in nappies will need to bring a bag with nappies and wipes please, as well as their change of clothes.

If children are ill or miss a session for any other reason parents or carers should telephone the school on 01271 863462. If a child a misses a session and school have not received any contact a member of staff will telephone to check the reason for absence.
