Parents and Carers

One of our school's core values is the importance of parents and carers in the life of a child. That is why we value so highly the input, commitment and engagement of all the adults with children at the school.
As a parent or carer you are very welcome in our school. Adults are encouraged to help in school, either in their own child's class, community tasks or in other classes. Also, if a parent or carer has a particular skill he/she would like to share with us we welcome their support.
Your input is highly valued by the school and can help us to build strong, meaningful relationships between staff and parents. With these relationships we can then really provide a firm, secure emotional base from which your children can succeed. At the heart of this approach is communication. We believe that when communication is effective between parents and school, a mutual trust develops and the children have the best chance to reach their individual potential.
To this end we use the following strategies to promote good communication between home and school:
  • Parents are invited into the classroom every morning, class teachers and teaching assistants make this a time when parents can talk informally to them.
  • Soon after your child is admitted to a new class the class teacher will invite you to a "Getting to know you” meeting. At this meeting you will have an opportunity to meet the teacher, see the classroom and find out what particular schemes of work are to be studied.
  • In October you will be invited into school, to consult with the class teacher about your child's progress. This is a crucial time to assess how things have been going and to plan and work together for the remainder of the year.
  • At the end of each half term there will be a verbal, a written report or a celebration of your child's progress.

Starting school may be a new experience in your family, or perhaps you have older children already in school. Whatever your previous experiences of education, we aim to make this a happy and exciting partnership and a firm foundation on which to build your child's future.

Above all, you will find all our staff very approachable. If you have any concern, however trivial it might seem, please come and speak with us. We, for our part, will make sure that you are well informed about what is happening in your school and, most important of all, ensure your child is well cared for and educated.
